All you need to know about The Bedford in Balham.

Right in the heart of South London lays The Bedford pub. This is not any kind of pub where you would expect to go and get a quiet drink but a venue that is crammed full of entertainment. Open seven days (and nights) a week, you can join a dance class, catch live music and even enjoy something to eat all under one roof. One paragraph to describe The Bedford isn’t enough so we have some more information about the venue and what you can find there.

History

In the 1830’s, The Bedford was born as a hotel located in the heart of Balham, South London. Being a cornerstone for all of the community, the venue got involved in the world of music by holding gigs for artists such as U2 and The Clash. The three floor-five function room building has been home to more than a few functions including the unsolved murder case of Charles Bravo and the legendary Banana Cabaret comedy club for 25 years running.

Food & Drink

Offering up a wide range of the finest traditional ales and international lagers, The Bedford is the perfect place for a drink on a night out. Home to some of the best pub grub you can find in South London, the venue boasts top chefs who deliver the finest pub cuisine from carefully sourced suppliers. Delicious meals such as Goat Cheese and Red Onion Tarts, Grilled Chicken and not forgetting the traditional Beer Battered Fish and Chips served with chunky chips and mushy peas.

Music/Dance

Always opening their doors to new, unheard and established musical talent The Bedford is committed to giving talent the spotlight it needs – no matter what kind. With music nights running four days a week, 50 weeks a year, people from in and around the community can visit and enjoy some magical performances. Famous faces such as Paulo Nutini, KT Tunstall and James Morrison have made appearances at the free entry performance shows.

As well as enjoying a spot of music, you can always get up and dance! The Bedford hold several different types of dance classes on the ballroom on the first floor. Grab some friends and learn some sizzling Salsa, tempting Tango and get fit with Zumba.

Comedy

If you don’t fancy a bit of dancing or music but do want to have a laugh, you can find the funniest men and women alive at the comedy clubs held almost every night. The Banana cabaret is back again this year making way for the many funny talents in the U.K including Stephen K. Amos and  Perrier-winning Daniel Kitson. Tickets for the Banana Cabaret start from  £14 and can be booked in advance. Each and every Tuesday the stage is open to new acts to show off their talent and tickle the audience.

Sports

A fresh cold lager is nothing if you don’t have a game to watch. With free admission to their screening area, sports fans from almost anywhere can visit and watch their favourite sporting event on the big screens. Named as one of South London’s premier sport venues, the Globe theatre, Ballroom, and two additional bars have seen huge crowds join in the fun whilst watching the world cup and FA cup finals.
