Marvel Universe LIVE! Super Heroes Assemble at The O2 Arena

Rating:

This weekend provides parents with the last chance to take their kids to see Marvel Universe LIVE! Super Heroes Assemble at The O2 Arena.  And, despite the cost, those who trek along to East London for the live action production won’t be disappointed.

The show keeps up a frenetic pace, with constant stunts serving to entertain young and old, and gloss over lost snippets of dialogue and a complex plot line.  By the end of each performance, the arena’s packed with cosplay-clad children whose little minds have been blown by what they’ve witnessed and that, really, is what it’s all about.

Ian Cater is the father of two such children who saw the show last week.

‘Impossible’ at Noel Coward Theatre: an astounding magical mystery for all the family

Rating:

The mind blowing magical spectacular that is Impossible has returned to Noel Coward Theatre for a limited period until 27th August 2016.

Samm Abbott went along to an early performance for What’s On London and, despite getting dragged up on stage, enjoyed herself immensely.  Despite being slightly gimmicky at times, with some of the world’s best illusionists, conjurers, escapologists, mind readers and magicians on stage, this family-friendly event is destined to astound.

ZSL London Zoo: Step into the ‘Land of the Lions’

Rating:

What’s on London was given access this week to the amazing new Land of the Lions enclosure at ZSL London Zoo.  The latest addition to one of the capital’s most popular attractions opens its doors to the public tomorrow (25th March) and they’re in for a treat.

The enclosure – costing £5.2 million – transports visitors from the heart of London to the vibrant and exotic setting of Gujarat state, home to the Asiatic lions.  It’s breathtaking, from the time you enter to the moment you stand just a few feet away from the majestic animals.

And Land of the Lions is more than just another enclosure: it’s a piece of conservation, with great importance attached to saving the species from extinction.  ZSL’s Asiatic Lions Campaign raised the funds to create it and continues to carry out vital work in the wild to protect this endangered species.

Marvel Universe LIVE! Super Heroes Assemble at the 02 Arena

By Ian Cater, Chief Features Writer

In September this year, Marvel Universe LIVE! Super Heroes Assemble will take over the 02 Arena.  Each generation has its own set of fads, but some things remain constant: kids – and their parents – love super heroes.  That’s why cinemas are packed to the rafters whenever an Avengers or Spider-Man movie comes to town.  And why you can’t walk into a toyshop without tripping over a 12-inch plastic Hulk or Iron Man action figure.  Because the big boys, DC and Marvel, know that whatever they produce will get snaffled up.

But here’s the thing: with great power, comes great responsibility … to entertain, to do something different, to open children’s eyes to something their parents never experienced.

To this end, Marvel think that they’ve hit the jackpot: a live, action-packed arena performance by its favourite creations – Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Black Widow – taking on their hateful enemies before your very eyes.

Shrek The Musical at the New Wimbledon Theatre

Based on the 2001 animated film, ‘Shrek The Musical’ is an entertaining evening which will have both adults and children dancing in their seats throughout the whole performance. On the penultimate stop of a hugely successful UK tour, Shrek is currently at the New Wimbledon Theatre.

The title character is brought to life by Dean Chisnall, who manages to showcase both the aggressive and softer side to the ogre, despite not having the strongest singing voice. Sometimes a struggle to understand his mumbling dialect, Chisnall most importantly captures the warmth of the character.

What’s On London attends VIP Launch of Hogwarts in the Snow at Warner Bros Studio Tour: The Making of Harry Potter

Last week, What’s On London had the opportunity to attend the Harry Potter Warner Bros Studio Tour’s VIP Launch of their latest feature, Hogwarts in the Snow.  The Christmassy feeling hit us as soon as we walked through the door as we were greeted by a gigantic Christmas tree in the foyer which was beautifully decorated.

Following some magical drinks in the foyer which bubbled and produced smoke, we were shown through into the Great Hall which has been impeccably decorated with a number of Christmas trees lining the wall behind the tables with a giant wreath hanging over the fireplace.

Crackers and presents decorated in the various house colours adorned the Great Hall tables, while Christmas food including roast potatoes, peas, ham and turkey were piled on top.  Demonstrations were given of how the flames around the Christmas puddings were created before we were able to make our way around the tour.

Shrek’s Adventure: Just take the kids –they’ll love it

Rating:

The latest addition to County Hall brings the wold of our favourite green-ogre, Shrek, in his own immersive storytelling attraction. Situated next to the London Aquarium and London Dungeons, and opposite the London Eye Shrek’s Adventure is the perfect addition; it brings the characters from one of the last decade’s most beloved animated films and numerous characters from the world of Dreamworks.

You begin your tour with a sedate walk through the underground corridors of County Hall where you eventually come into contact with Princess Fiona. It’s the beginning of the tour that really packs a punch. The 4D bus ride is not only the best immersive aspect of the experience, but it’s probably better than any other 4D experience that the capitals numerous other attractions offer. Your ride on the 4D bus, driven of course by our very own noble stead , Donkey, crashes straight into one of evil Rumpelstiltskin’s witches, and here the adventure begins.

Shrek's Adventure

Shrek’s Adventure

The tour takes you through a number of environments from the world of Shrek including the swamp, a drinking tavern, an experience with Pinocchio, and a fortune teller, as well as a somewhat puzzling maze. The environments have all been well constructed, bringing with them the smells and sights of Shrek’s world into our reality.

Shrek’s Adventure is the perfect attraction for all those who loved the film series. However, you might feel a little let down as you expect a little more from the environments and the experience. Nevertheless, Shrek’s Adventure is an unforgettable experience, and one that all ogre enthusiasts should endeavour to visit this summer.
