Stunning line-up announced for ‘Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park’

Last night’s Brit Awards 2016 proved a memorable evening for all involved – with Lorde’s moving David Bowie tribute understandably going viral – but especially for the winners, including London’s own Adele.  And three amazing artists who narrowly missed out on the big prizes can console themselves with being part of perhaps the biggest day in London music later this year: Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park.

BST has announced that its line-up for the opening day on Saturday, 2nd July 2016 will include:

Florence + The Machine – nominated for Best Female Solo Artist and British Album of the Year;

Kendrick Lamar – nominated for Best International Male Solo Artist; and

Jamie XX – nominated for Best Male Solo Artist.

And if that wasn’t enough to get you heading straight for the tickets website, the organisers have confirmed that Blood Orange will also guest that day, with further acts to be announced soon.

Florence + The Machine: a triumphant return to London.

Florence Welch – unfortunate to lose to record-breaking Adele in both Brit Award categories – says it’s an honour to headline BST, in what’s billed as a ‘triumphant homecoming’ at the end of her hectic US tour.

It caps the end of a great year in which How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful became her third number one album and was recently nominated for the Mercury Prize.  And it seems that Welch can’t wait to return to the capital.

“It’s an iconic place to perform, especially for a British artist,” she says.  “I grew up in London.  All of my first gigs were here.  We will put on something really special.  What’s amazing is that we have free reign, so we are going to make something magical happen!”

Kendrick Lamar: current king of hip-hop.

And she’s no doubt delighted to appear in the same billing as one of the current kings of hip-hop, Kendrick Lamar – fresh from winning five Grammy Awards earlier this month – and the multi-talented Jamie XX, who has remixed her work before.  The Welch connection continues with Blood Orange, the latest musical project by British singer and producer Dev Hynes, who collaborated with Welch on her hugely successful album Lungs.

Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park has become a highlight of the music calendar since launching in 2013.

This year’s events will be spread over the weekends of 2/3 and 9/10 July 2016, with a midweek programme of comedy, food and entertainment in between.  Music will be performed across its five stages, surrounded by dramatic film set buildings dividing the site into themed zones, including a Village Green, European Piazza and Cuban Street.

Previous headliners include The Rolling Stones, Arcade Fire, The Libertines, Taylor Swift and Blur.  But with Take That and Mumford & Sons already announced to perform on the second weekend this year, the 2016 vintage looks to be the most impressive and eclectic yet.

And What’s On London will be there all the way, with in-depth features on each of the leading artists in the build-up to one of the summer’s biggest events.  Stay tuned.

For now, get yourself over to the tickets website if any of the following acts grab your eyes and ears:

Saturday, 2nd July – Florence + The Machine / Kendrick Lamar / Jamie XX / Blood Orange
Friday, 8th July – Mumford & Sons / Alabama Shakes / Wolf Alice
Saturday, 9th July – Take That / Olly Murs / Ella Eyre / Jamie Lawson / Nathan Sykes
