Last week, What’s On London had the opportunity to attend the Harry Potter Warner Bros Studio Tour’s VIP Launch of their latest feature, Hogwarts in the Snow.  The Christmassy feeling hit us as soon as we walked through the door as we were greeted by a gigantic Christmas tree in the foyer which was beautifully decorated.

Following some magical drinks in the foyer which bubbled and produced smoke, we were shown through into the Great Hall which has been impeccably decorated with a number of Christmas trees lining the wall behind the tables with a giant wreath hanging over the fireplace.

Crackers and presents decorated in the various house colours adorned the Great Hall tables, while Christmas food including roast potatoes, peas, ham and turkey were piled on top.  Demonstrations were given of how the flames around the Christmas puddings were created before we were able to make our way around the tour.

Members of the Studio Tour staff were on hand to offer insider information on the films and to answer any questions posed to them. The Gryffindor Common Room and Boys Dormitory have both been kitted out with Christmas decorations and just next to the Dormitory set, the Goblet of Fire has been moved out of its casing and into the centre of the space. Here we were given a unique demonstration, watching as the casing melted away, the flames changed colour and spat out a name, just like in the movie.

Studio Tour staff revealed how snow and ice for the films were created, (would you believe the snow we see is just very finely shredded paper!) before venturing into the Green Screen area where visitors are able to ride a broomstick and fly in the Ford Anglia car! After walking past the Burrow, Hagrid’s Hut and the Ministry of Magic, we ventured on to Platform 9 ¾ where the shiny, red Hogwarts Express is sat ready for people to climb aboard. Here, visitors are able to purchase goods that are only available at the Platform 9 ¾ store, including Hogwarts Express cushions, tea towels, t shirts and hats.

After a spot of Butterbeer, we found ourselves standing outside Privet Drive as it began to snow! The foam only lasts for a few minutes each time, but it’s enough to get you in the festive mood! The best part of the tour had to be the Hogwarts Castle model at the end which has been covered in snow, making it even more jaw-dropping than usual.

The studio tour shop is filled with fantastic gift ideas and Christmas-themed items including baubles, tree decorations and snow globes. Without a doubt, Hogwarts in the Snow will leave you counting down the days until Christmas Day!

Hogwarts in the Snow is open now and runs until January 31st. Tickets must be booked in advance via the website.

Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster also attended the event on Thursday 19th November.
