Krept and Konan – Live at the O2 Brixton Academy

Playing to a sold-out crowd at the O2 Academy in Brixton, Krept and Konan started off the first show of their Night To Remember tour with a bang.  

The South London duo, voted Best Hip-Hop Act at the 2014 MOBOs, energised the crowd with a string of punchy performances from their 2013 mixtape Young Kingz and debut album The Long Way Home.

And, as fans have come to expect, the procession of special guests supporting them throughout the night – including Stormzy, Craig David and Lethal Bizzle – shows just how far the pair have come.

Kate Tempest on Tour: Brand New Ancients

When I walked out of the Royal Court Theatre in Sloane Square after seeing Brand New Ancients performed, I was a little bit speechless and more than a little bit in love with Kate Tempest. Tempest is a hugely talented poet, rapper, storyteller and spoken word artist and this production, Brand New Ancients, showcases her talent brilliantly. Brand New Ancients is a Battersea Arts Centre co-production that will be touring venues in London and around the country from now until April. It will end at the beginning with the final performances taking place in the Battersea Arts Centre.

Ghostpoet: Hackney Empire

Music began with the affable Andrew Ashong whom I last saw supporting Jimmy Cliff no less at ‘The Other Empire’. Check-out his intoxicating blend of sunshine-reggae and cool jazz. His talented backing band comprised a drummer and percussionist with three guitarists including himself. Yearnsome harmonies attained that beauty in simplicity marking talent, and the nursery-rhyme-ish ‘Special’ would have anyone dancing around its playground. The programme had been delayed by an hour due to “problems with the tickets” but at least it hadn’t rained. Meanwhile, DJ Thom of Alt-J slammed some slabs.
